12. Parental involvement in school...

How does parental involvement in school help or hurt these situations?

  1. Sometimes I think parental involvement helps the situation because the parent knows more about the children that their child is friends with and they may pick up on different roles that girls are playing if they are regularly involved with the students. It may allow for more open conversations between parent and child and the parent may be more empathetic to their child. It can also make things worse if the parent who is involved is a rescue parent who is constantly looking for ways to blame others for the misbehavior of their child.

  2. I think that parental involvement helps because we can take these opportunities to educate our parents on topics and situation that arise in the school. We can also give tips on how they as parents can help resolve them.

How does parental involvement in school help or hurt these situations? I believe parental involvement helps parents become aware of issues that affect students today. I believe it also gives the parent insight to who their child is hanging around. I believe the lack of parental involvement only makes the situation worse. Many students who are bullied don't feel comfortable getting their parents involved. So I would like to increase awareness and inservices for parents on how bullying has changed since they were students and how to help their child stand up for themselves.

  4. I think that parental involvement is school helps parents see the total picture and how things are working with their children's relationships. I think they also see a better cross section of what is happening that affects students. It also sends a strong message of I care about you and your world. The parent who never comes to school to see their child's world send the message of "I don't care". It is also an opportunity to work with parents through casual conversation so when a problem comes up they are willing to deal with it effectively and have a relationship with the counselor and the teacher to help solve any issues.
